Hunter S. Thompson - RIP - 1937-2005



"Hunter S. Thompson, who pioneered "gonzo" journalism and became a counterculture celebrity with works such as "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," fatally shot himself at his Colorado home on Sunday night, police said. He was 67."

  • From the ESPN archives, a favorite: Hunter discusses the merits of Shotgun Golf with Bill Murray at 3:30am.

    "He had my Ping Beryllium 9-iron, and I had his shotgun, and about 100 yards away, we had a linoleum green and a flag set up. He was pitching toward the green. And I was standing about 10 feet away from him, with the alley-sweeper. And my objective was to blow his ball off course, like a clay pigeon."

  • One more thing, I read it on Peep Show Stories regarding Thompson's death. You all should read it:

  • Thomspon has always been vicious. Remember what he had to say during the election?
    Richard Nixon looks like a flaming liberal today, compared to a golem like George Bush. Indeed. Where is Richard Nixon now that we finally need him?

    If Nixon were running for president today, he would be seen as a "liberal" candidate, and he would probably win. He was a crook and a bungler, but what the hell? Nixon was a barrel of laughs compared to this gang of thugs from the Halliburton petroleum organization who are running the White House today -- and who will be running it this time next year, if we (the once-proud, once-loved and widely respected "American people") don't rise up like wounded warriors and whack those lying petroleum pimps out of the White House on November 2nd.    Considering how much work he did for Rolling Stone, I'm really surprised that they haven't posted an obtuary yet.
